If you look in US Spacesuits by Thomas and McMann at each AX (AMES suits) you will see they often use Apollo gloves to complete the suit which couldn't be performing very well at 8 psi. They didn't do so well normally so doubling the pressure couldn't improve things. BTW the Sokol glove is very similar to the Apollo glove.
