Like I pointed out to Bowser,

my comments were not about specific contemporary issues, but about the role of immersion in the culture's general trends and currents in order to develop and refine a worldview. This can be best done by what is generally referred to as a "liberal arts eduction", as opposed to the details of current events and controversies. It's the difference between history and journalism. 20 years from now, no one will know or care who Keith Olberman or Rush Limbaugh were, because they represent petty, parochial interests. They simply do not matter. But people will still be reading Homer.
