Jamestown Colony was the result of English competion against the Dutch and French.
A little over one year after the English settled Jamestown the
French settled the colony of Quebec.
It was a bitter rivalry between the two nations, with the Dutch and Swedes trying to get in on the action as well.
There was even open combat as a result.
