re: Regrets and hopes

We can't fathom humans permanently living away from Earth because it would condemn them never to return back to their planet and that would go against their main goal: freedom.

Maybe one day they might not consider this as being "jailed in space" but, I'm not sure what their state of mind would be if they didn't care about Earth.

I can easily see a second or third generation raised in space having no real problem with not being able to go to Earth other than by telepresence. How many Americans have never seen the country their distant ancestors came from? I only learned in the past few years where my ancestors actually came from, and that because my daughter was doing it for a school project. It was interesting, but my desire to see Bessarabia is nil.

Might not end up being an issue anyway. I suspect that if medical science can solve the problems of adapting humans to living and reproducing in permanent zero-G, it can solve the problem of beefing them up for visits.

This brings a poem to mind, and I'm going to post it on "Off-Topic."
