Switch browsers
Firefox not only has built-in popup blocking, but it has add-ons available that block such things unless/until you specifically permit them. For instance, "Flashblock" puts a placeholder on the page with a "play" button, so you only see them if you decide to. "Adblock" does just what its name implies.
