The wings fell off.
The damn thing obviously wasn't designed to glide- what the hell was the point of having the wings scissor? They could have attached the engines to the body and built the mounts into the chine structure and they could still scissor the X wing. I guess they wanted it to be as realistic as possible.... HELLO!!! it was a friggin' movie!
(I think I'll go buy a replica Mach5 Racer and use the rotory saws to clean up the brush on my property, heck it'll go anywhere...)
