Trouble is, even if it made sense economically, which is dubious, it requires a huge rectenna for efficient power transmission. Nothing as big as a kilometer-square structure has ever been built. Look at the size & cost of the ISS and how long it took to construct. Scale that up. We couldn't build a SPS in 1000 years at the rate we build things in space. Nothing wrong with hoping though.
