Um, not that I believe the Democratic party is particularly effective even when they do have power, but did I miss something in the last decade where the Democrats actually had any control of anything? I seem to remember this force riding roughshod on them.

That was a pretty ridiculous statement Tom and this impression is coming from someone that's not terribly impressed with the Democratic Party at this time. Now, I'm upset with them because they haven't taken the Bush administration to task when it sure seems to me that was the mandate of the people when they handed them the reins. No matter how meek they've been though they have at least not stuck it to the powerless even more.

However, when they have been in power they generally have pandered to blacks and other minorities so I'm going to have to assume, had they had the huge amount of power the conservatives have wielded over the past 6 years or so, they would have shored up that part of their base as they had through history even if not for the noblest of reasons.

You can't be part of the bullies and then cry foul when the victims lose power. That's pretty low.
