After four decades of almost exclusive control, the Democrats lost Congress in 1994. Suddenly all the techniques, rules and other things used to pretty much keep Republicans out in the cold were used against Democrats, and you could hear the screaming from Patagonia. I'm old enough to remember the reign of people like Tip O'Neill, and the status of the minority party under him. So are you.
Silenced? Good Lord, if the past 12 years is an example of "silenced liberals," I don't know what "noise" is.
Liberals dominate the media, the entertainment culture, and the educational structure, including academia.
Sure there are exceptions. How many? Not a lot. Even now, if I mention that the media is liberal, I am shouted down with counterexamples. Unfortunately, there are rarely more than about five of them, and always the exact same ones. And ten or twenty years ago, with the possible exception of the Wall Street Journal editorial page, none of these existed.
Fox News was founded in 1996. Before 1987, thanks to the Fairness Doctrine, there WAS no such thing as national political talk radio. The internet didn't exist prior to the 1990s. The choke point on American information was narrow, and solid.
You want "silenced?" It's been less than 20 years since there WERE other major voices than the Left in this country.
