My post, Lindy, was aimed at conservatives who refuse to learn, refuse to understand and wilfully suspend disbelief even in the face of overwhelming evidence.
TB is one of those. He believes that reading anything which isn't idelolgically pure will cause him to think some other way. Therefore, he will not read the histories of the "war on terrorism", even the one written by a very devout conservative, Richard A. Clarke.
In virtually all of these books no one calls Bush, for instance, a liar. They don't go out of their way to point out inconsistencies. And yet it becomes painfully obvious he lied his ass off, and it's just taken for granted. TB does not believe Bush has lied, and the only way he can maintain that belief is to stay woefully, deliberately ignorant. Obfuscating that behind a mask of unrelated, alleged factoids which do not reflect the realities, either past or present.
He's a nice guy, an interesting guy. He's also typical of conservative, trapped in a world most of us grow out of, the need to look at the world as black-and-white, good and evil, for us or against us. A rigid view, initially comforting, which results in an intellectual fortress, resisting all input which isn't ideologically pure and validating the view that all is either right or wrong.

He should, and can't.
