In this case it's one of their own who's become a "Bush-hater" and they probably found that smearing him was a difficult task.
Maybe they're putting all their smear energy into going after Valerie Plame-Wilson who is hitting all the talk show circuits and sounding more intelligent and reasoned than anyone in government today.
