Same reason we've heavily supported Taiwan, South Korea, and during the Cold War, Europe.

In all seriousness though, just being a Democracy isn't reason enough for our support. A democracy formed in Lebanon and look what the population put into power. Should we have immediately started sending Hamas military supplies because they were now the clear mandate of the people?

We seem to be very friendly and supportive as well of Saudi Arabia and would immediately come to their aid should their oil fields be threatened. Hardly a democracy there.

Truth is, democracy has little to do with who we support and who we don't. It's more a matter of economic interests and retaining power in areas that are strategically important to us.
