I've pretty much ignored the "Blu-Ray/HDDVD" mess, reasonably figuring that units that play both would be reasonably priced in a few years, and that I can't afford a decent HDTV anyway.

Now some of my favorite new movies are coming out in the new format as well as the old, and when I buy a new DVD in "normal" format, I'm dumping cash into obsolesence. Sigh.

I have no idea if a HD DVD player can pipe a "degraded" signal into a regular TV. Probably worth checking out. The players are dropping in price faster than the TVs.

But I've seen Blu-Ray in action, and it rocks.
