I think the real lesson to take away from this is that this fiasco made the television news, the numbers were uncritically accepted by news writers and editors, and presented without the slightest amount of thought being spent on it. It took me about fifteen minutes to find the truth.
It's small consolation that it was a local news program. I've seen worse from national ones.
