I don't have more recent numbers than that chart, but it seems that although the U.S. population is increasing, and GDP is going up, total energy use is flattening out, and maybe even going down.
As technologies like "plug-in" hybrids and electric cars come in, and solar gets cheaper, things will improve even more.
Energy costs are high, and nothing brings change like a high price on something. These fuel prices may eventually save our ass.
If a large segment of distributed electrical load starts going solar, how the heck do we measure our overall energy use?
