Did you flush the cache?
Tony, SDG, Laurie: The symptoms sound too much like the former state of the site, when absolutely nothing worked, so I suspect that you might be working from old cached files. If you don't mind, could you flush the browser cache (Tools--Internet Options--Delete files) and check it again? You should at least be getting farther than a BlackSOD.
If the problem persists, how about displaying debug messages? Append "?debugmode=true" to the address, and please let me know if you see any red error messages.
