Waiting to get out of school.
Waiting to get out of the Navy.
Waiting to get out of college.
Waiting for my big break.
Waiting for my job to fulfill its expectations.
Waiting to rebuild my career after a layoff.
Waiting to claw my way to the top of the hierarchy.
Until I retired. Then I said, "the hell with it". And I realized I didn't owe anybody anything, that I had pretty much done everything I needed to do, and most of what I wanted. I was reasonably secure and in pretty good shape. I didn't have to wait any more. I also realized it wouldn't last forever because sure enough, sooner or later the other shoe always drops, for everybody.
Do I regret anything? Sure, I'm not married to a 20 year old leggy Vegas showgirl, I don't have a home observatory or a blue water yacht, but other than that, I'm doing OK.
Life is good. I live like Pharaoh.
