It's the addiction economic theory.
Paying "hard" cash for an ephemeral feelgood until there is no more feelgood, and then treating the addiction. Either when the "hard" cash is gone or there is no more feelgood.
Either of them is transferring wealth, with is gone, only for the purpose of delaying the inevitable. It makes sense to face the addiction and making the inevitable adjustments wile there is still wealth left.
I know a lot of people who have done that with small and large fortunes, usually throwing in their health for good measure.
Seems like a bad bargain, considering the matter has to be faced some time.
