The below is from a speech by George W. Bush given in November, 2005, over two years ago.

After December 7, 1941, the US military started training military forces in earnest. In 1943 alone 3.3 million Americans were drafted, and darned near ALL OF THEM WERE TRAINED TO BE A MEAN, LEAN FIGHTING MACHINE IN LESS THAN 3 MONTHS. Some specialized training took longer, but they were trained in the arts of basic military effectiveness in less than 3 months. This was two years after the war started for the US.

The US has been "training" Iraqis for longer than WWII lasted. Therefore, the idea that the US is training Iraqis, that when they "stand up the US will stand down" is pure nonsense. If they could be trained to be effective, they would have been trained to be effective. It does not take LONGER THAN WWII lasted to train an army. And, the statistics to describe even the poor performance have been demonstrated over and over to be another Bush Administration fiction.

"To Defeat The Enemy, Iraqis Need Strong Military And Police Forces. Bringing skills and knowledge to the fight that Coalition forces cannot, Iraqi troops know their people, language, and culture. They know who the terrorists are and are earning the trust of their countrymen. As Iraqi forces grow in size and capability, they are helping to keep a better hold on cities and are increasingly taking the lead. The goal is to train enough Iraqi forces to carry the fight against the terrorists."
