How far and fast will lunar dust fly from a retrorocket blast?
Important things to know before we go building a landing pad
next to a manned lunar base.
I have reported this before here, but it bears repeating: The
fine dust on Mars will act like a sandblaster when a ship fires
its retrorockets to land on the Red Planet. Landing pads will
need to be kept far from the habitats.
Is anyone looking into this, or will our astronauts find out the
hard way?
