Some consider a lighter hand gun a better weapon for self defense because of recoil. Bullet placement can be more important than bullet energy- your second or third shot will usually be more accurate.
My brother had a 44mag with a two-inch barrel. When I shot it, my first shot was in the black, every shot after that was off the paper.
