We hang on so badly to a deity
Anything to avoid that final demotion to the fact that the
Universe is completely indifferent to our existence and the
likely fact that a quantum fluctuation or some other statistical
fluke of reality brought everything into existence.
If there is a creator of some sort, he/she/it is obviously
remote enough that we should just accept the fact that
we are essentially on our own and have to take care of
each other if we want to survive and more.
