why this concept has never been (Until Rutan) pursued?
At Evergreen Aviation, in Marana Arizona (about 50 miles south of Phoenix)
there are more mothballed Boeing 747's than you can count.
That would make a formidable twin fuselage launch platform. Relatively inexpensive, powerful and tremendously robust.
