The US and most of Europe are secular societies. I assume your little grunt was aimed at communism. Some secularists have suggested that Communism, though, was effectively a religious cult with communist doctrine replacing theological doctrine- I think its a good case to be made.
But regardless, the best the west has to offer, and the best it has offered over the last 400-500 years has been in the way of models of the social and physical universe that remove God as a causative or explainatory agent. In as muc as you revere the constitution and idolize the founding fathers, you are a secularist.
Hobbes was right when he said about Descartes Cogito proclamation: 'No, you have not shown that there is a thinking thing apart form the universe [spirit]. You have shown that the universe [stuff] thinks!'. Descartes contemporaries thought he went too far and tried to silence him. By the time the west invents nero-psychology, Hobbes was proven correct however forgotten he was by history.
