Replicators.

Replicator technology may not be that far off. What you need is a machine that can build stuff atom by atom. Then all you would need is an ‘atomic map’ of what you wanted to build. The ‘atomic map’ could be made from mapping the atoms of an existing atoms. You would also need the atoms to build it, but perhaps another machine could sort atoms from the ‘dirt’ of whatever world the person was living on.

Another way may be to copy plants. An apple tree take matter out of the ground to build apples. They are not identical to each other on the atomic scale, but they are close enough. In a way, an Apple tree replicates apples. Making a machine that duplicated this process would be invaluable for settlers. Such a machine could set ‘roots’ in the ground, then pull out matter to build things.
