Doug Vakoch thinks we should have an ‘open discussion about the potential risks’ - BIG Deal. We know absolutely zero about any ET so there is not a lot to talk about. I’m sure he and a few friends could meet in some far off place with a nice weather and well made Margareta’s and they could talk all they want but what they come up with would not be worth beans.
I wonder if the Indian bands that lived near the Atlantic seashore 500 years ago ever thought that there might be other ‘tribes’ on the other side of the water and wondered if they should send out a boat to see. Do you think that someone like an Indian Vakoch talked them out of it saying that the risks were too great? He would have been right of course because when the ‘others’ finally made it to land they brought with them sickness and death and changed the tribes forever.
That much is true but what of the European explorers’ that made the trip. Were they dissuaded by stories of dragons and falling off the end of the earth? Many made the trip and yes dragons did get many along the way but what other choice did any of them have. It was something that had to be done and sooner or later it would be done.
I say lets break the silence and start sending our dictionaries and encyclopedias’ out.
What do we have to loose – everything!
What do we have to gain – everything!
