re: McCain / Lieberman 2008?

"Not very likely. Lieberman is pro war, but so is McCain, he adds nothng to the ticket that is not already there. Otherwise, Leiberman is liberal, and McCain is desperately trying to distance himself from that. Lieberman will repel conservatives and attract no liberals."

The only way for McCain to work this magic, is if he has Mitt as VP. And this is because McCain is old, odds are he won't run for second term. Not to mention the fact, that Mitt's weak point was as Commander in Chief. And there probably isn't a better Commander in Chief than McCain.
But my guess is McCain would probably endure waterboarding rather than have Mitt as VP. But if he had any sense, he would quickly grab Mitt as VP.

Instead I would predict that McCain wants Lieberman. And McCain is a stubborn [or you could fairly say, stupid]. McCain has utter contempt for conservatives [the same people that voted for him and he mostly represents] but it's not too hard for him to act diplomatically towards the Conservatives [diplomatically, in the sense of saying nice doggie, while reaching for a stick].

Nope, whether anyone wants it or not, the electorate at the moment has 3 dems to choose from Clinton, Obama, and McCain with Lieberman VP, picked at or after convention [two rare Dem hawks- so rare they should put on the endangered species list]. Oh, in Dem race all that's really up in the air is which one of them is to be VP- probably Obama.
And I don't think there will be a third party choice [or second party choice]- though perhaps Ron Paul is crazy enough to run independent, but it most likely won't count as a real choice.

I think at this point, my preference is Obama for President, and I'm glad Bush has given him a lot secret service protection, he [and we as a country] need it.
My second choice would be Clinton.

Though the general election is a eternity from now- a lot can happen before then- McCain and Lieberman could change my mind.
