We need competent people
I saw an interview with someone who was in intelligence pre- 9/11 and he talked about how unreliable physical torture was. People will say anything just to make it stop. He said the method they used that was so effective was to be disarming, to spend time with captives, get to know them and, after awhile, they'd get the info they needed and that it was reliable.
