I think the Romans would have thought us perverse.
At least they showed real people suffering real violence, it was brutal but it was honest. None of this made-up torture and mayhem.
Then again, I understand Japan has an extremely violent pornography industry, very widespread, but the country has a very low incidence of violence and sex crimes.
