re: New Zealand's entry for the Darwin Awards
I can see not wearing a seatbelt, or even refusing to have them installed in your car, but going to the trouble of getting and wearing a fake?
I installed seat belts in my first car in 1964 because club rules required I wear them while racing. Once I had gone to the trouble of getting them, I quickly got into the habit of using them, long before they became a legal requirement.
It sounds like this Kiwi gent was suffering from a terminal case of ideological self-righteousness. I suppose we all have the freedom to be stupid, as long as someone else doesn't have to foot the bill.
