If ever there was an utterly useless agency -TRB is it.
Looking through this was educational
In 2007 they put out some several hundred "advisory" publications from asphalt durability to the report noted in the news article. They have a staff and independent consultants in the thousands and are funded by anyone with at least $60,000 who wants a unscientific hack piece released with TRB initials behind it.
It's my job to know this stuff, so here's a freebie:
The core technical activities of the Transportation Research Board receive support from three groups of institutional affiliates: sponsors, sustaining affiliates, and organizational affiliates.
Sponsors are the major source of financial support for TRB's core technical activities. Federal, state, and local government agencies and professional societies and organizations that represent various industry groups are eligible to be TRB sponsors. Fees and services are negotiated with each sponsor to best serve its particular needs and to provide fundamental support for the Board's programs and activities of interest to the entire transportation community. The minimum annual fee is $60,000. Sustaining Affiliates are agencies and organizations, including individual corporations and businesses, that support TRB at a level considerably higher than the direct cost of the publications and other services they receive. The minimum annual contribution is $15,000. Organizational Affiliates include government agencies, academic organizations, private organizations, and consultants. Contributions for organizational affiliates are based on one of three levels of benefits they elect to receive. Click here for a list of contributors.
Not accidentally the list of sponsors of their report "creations" was blocked by deformed html on their website. Isn't that convenient.
You are so gullible McFly. But if it's any consolation - tens of millions are just as gullible as you are.
Just use logic and reason for a moment.
Arizona has temperatures that vary from 110-120 every summer. The railroads, buses and cars deal with it every year. Other states like Minnesota experience massive sub-freezing winters. What could global warming, and it's several degree average increase bring to the table that hasn't already been built-in to our existing transportation system????
Learn to recognize institutional doubletalk paid for by sponsors out to make a buck and you will have much more piece of mind and will not be able to be led around by a nose ring of fear, ignorance and hysteria.
