I think in regard to America:
Lefties think government is the answer to life's problems.
They hold dearly such concepts that in a better world more people would vote.
Such a concept can't be questioned. They also have number of other dogmas.
Conservatives are not Lefties or "Rightwingers". The Conservative movement is the result of liberal politics and policy. Period end of story.
The conservation movement is the result of liberals inhibiting people from getting what they want in terms of political desires. Had the liberals and Dems not blocked these people's voice, they would been Dems. The conservatives were thinking and saying things which were "off message", and the liberals and Dems were not what they thought they were: open and inclusive.
The conservative movement were allowed in by Republicans, because the Republicans wanted and needed them. It was merely due to political needs rather than "these people" having the same ideas and were "politically acceptable".
Conservatives with small "c" are generally what Nixon meant by the silent majority- most people and people who are mostly disinterested in politics- and may see voting as a duty similar to jury duty.
Dems used to win election by firing up the electorate when the time came for voting. But because of the laws they have passed over the decades these action have fired up the electorate- and not to vote Dem or Left causes.
I way I see it the dems, as any competent politician, have seen the writing on the wall, and in the coming years one will get to the point of more people complaining that "they are all the same".
