That's deliberate.
But again, keep your perspective. You watch your portfolio go up and down, but try and remember what you PAID for the stocks that are in there now.
The DOW didn't even get UP to 12,000 until October of 2006. If you're nicely diversified, almost anything that's happened since then is still profit. Unless, of course, you didn't start buying stocks until they hit 14,000. ;)
