Panspermia is one of those laughable ideas which comes to make a lot of sense. If one wanted to transport a lot of information over long distances and time spans without depending upon there being a civilization with a receiver and the intelligence to figure it out, DNA would make sense. And it would give complex life longer to evolve it it had the headstart of a basic DNA which had a few billion years to come into being someplace else. Plus travel time.
Of course there are problems with it, such as cosmic rays. I don't know the answers though I suspect there are some.
It rather reminds me of the first time I heard that birds might be evolved from dinosaurs. Seemed utterly ridiculous, probably rather like the idea that the Earth circled the Sun seemed at one time. Or quantum mechanics - now there's a really silly proposition.
We'll see. Probably not in my lifetime, but we'll see.
