We are dependent on "Islamic oil" for a reason. We have been kept from drilling for domestic sources for decades by those on the left side of the isle. The energy needed to power a growing population and economy has to come from somewhere. If not from here, then from "Islamic oil".
Tell those on your side of the political spectrum that the energy crisis is one of THEIR own making. Sunshine and fresh breezes are not going to power us into nirvana. We need real energy sources. The Bakken formation looks like it has several hundred billion barrels of oil. Will we be allowed to exploit it? Massive amounts of oil lie of the coast of Florida. Will we be allowed to exploit it? Cuba and China are going to, why not the US? How about in Alaska or California?
And concerning nuclear power, it's been estimated that there are tens of millions of tons of thorium locked away in the Conway granite of Vermont. Enough fuel to power the US electric grid for thousands of years.
You want energy independence? Then stop tying our hands with the chains of the Green extremists and actually use the vast resources we have. We could be totally energy independent within 20 years. Anything else is blowing smoke up people's asses.
