Let's not have another Afghanistan fiasco
Remember when Jimmy Carter pulled the US out of the 1980
Olympics when they were held in Moscow because the USSR
had invaded Afghanistan the year before?
All that did was deny US amateur athletes their chance to show
the world what they had spent years working for and the USSR
won most of the events, big surprise. And they didn't leave
Afghanistan until years later.
We must compete against China, just as having Jesse Owens
beat the pants off Nazi Germany in the 1936 Berlin Olympics
said so much more than staying at home.
