The red maples don't live real long up here... If you can get one to last 25 years you are doing good... I have one that will need to be replaced in the next few years, the other seems pretty strong, but the neighbor has one that is the same size and age that looked near death last year. I'm hoping they both survived the brutal winter we've had (and are still having).

My silver maple is only 3 years old, but yes they grow fast...Will take over a substantial portion of the back corner of my 3/4 acre lot someday...Which will eventually force a garden relocation. They tend to grow suckers which if allowed to grow will speed the "trunk" growth into a giant multi-trunked monster...I've been trimming the suckers down to ground level trying to build one solid/stong trunk. The tree is fighting me every bit of the way though!

Other than that, I have 3 massive Oaks that dominate my landscape.

I plan on planting some apple trees a little later this spring to feed the rabbits something other than my garden vegetables.
