They said the same about ASL using primates for a long long time, until finally it could not be denied that actual communication was taking place.
I could see that the burden of proof should lay on those claiming that this is true expression by the elephant- but what is your evidence against- surely you have more cause to say this than just the doubt of an empiricist?
