Reasonable people will always accept the more reasonable explanation until furnished universally acceptable evidence. The trick is understanding what acceptable evidence really is.
No one would like more than I to see hard evidence of alien intelligence and contact, but nothing has come close to proving it.
We once had a frequent poster who called himself Splinx. He was a talented and seemingly intelligent guy but he was convinced that Area 51 is real and our government is complicit. No amount of rationalization or proof could convince him otherwise. He was a nut case of the highest order.
In the case of Lindy, she will admit it when overwhelming evidence shows she is wrong but for someone that has been shown to be wrong, so often, she is just too quick to buy into conspiracy theories and pop fantasies, like crop circles, contrails etc.
I place her on level 9 of the Nut Scale, while Splinx is on level 22.
