Human suffering and the US.

The US has a mixed record when it comes to human suffering in the last 50 years. The privation forced upon Cubans by "Cuban-Americans" is one dismal page. American lives weren't lost in that revolution, Castro wasn't hurt, but the howling put up some folks nearly 50 years later has led to Cubans suffering. And the "Cuban Americans" don't show any signs of caring that I've seen.

The embargo on Iraq didn't hurt Saddam or his sons, but did cause the Iraqis all manner of grief. To say the US wanted to "liberate" the same people it caused untold suffering, and then treated them the way it has takes the gall of a Conservative.

The US under Kissinger and Nixon promised aid to rebuild North Vietnam's infrastructure in return for the Americans captured in Laos and Cambodia. No aid, and between 400 and 500 American military personnel were abandoned.

The US will supply some material aid for a shorter rather than longer period. To some people. And from what I've seen, that's about it.
