The list of energy sources that environmentalists are trying to shut down includes oil, coal, nuclear, and hydroelectric. Two of these are the only major sources of non-CO2-emitting electrical power available today (something on the order of 60 percent of Canada's electricity comes from hydroelectric).

Windmills? Hurts the birds, and the scenery. And you can bet hard cash that if things like major solar installations finally start getting built in the deserts, they'll stop those too to protect some tortoise or something.
