Yes, it was.
The interview in question, which took place around May 13 of this year, is here.
Q Mr. President, you haven't been golfing in recent years. Is that related to Iraq?
THE PRESIDENT: Yes, it really is. I don't want some mom whose son may have recently died to see the Commander-in-Chief playing golf. I feel I owe it to the families to be as -- to be in solidarity as best as I can with them. And I think playing golf during a war just sends the wrong signal.
Q Mr. President, was there a particular moment or incident that brought you to that decision, or how did you come to that?
THE PRESIDENT: No, I remember when de Mello, who was at the U.N., got killed in Baghdad as a result of these murderers taking this good man's life. And I was playing golf -- I think I was in central Texas -- and they pulled me off the golf course and I said, it's just not worth it anymore to do.
It was a throwaway question in a friendly, informal interview about something that happened almost five years ago. Odds are good Bush doesn't remember the exact situation or dates any more than anyone else would, particularly when one is about to head out for the Middle East. As the answer reads, it even implies there wasn't one particular moment where he gave it up for good. You will note that nobody has popped up with any sneaky golf games since 2003.
You would have cut Obama a huge amount of slack in this same situation, which is the point I've been making with the other examples.
I don't know who got a wild hair up their ass to go and dig around to try and figure out hen Bush's actual last golf game was to show that he was Evil Incarnate, but as I told Buck in another context, you may be getting your information from crazy people.
