The Scott McClellan revelations have hit the Neocons pretty hard; the book has corroborrated and confirmed what the rest of us have known (and they have been denying vigorously) for years now. What they are doing is trying to open new fronts and open old wounds, in outrageous ways, to distract us from their latest rout. Look for renewed assaults and delaying actions on global warming, Iraq, the economy, the election campaigns, all fronts where they are in retreat now, while they do their best to do assemble damage control on McClellan.

It's not just the blogosphere apologists and their lap dogs on this forum either. It's all the way up the line. For example, the howls of indignation and cries of betrayal from the Bush gang about McClellan sound completely phony now that the news has leaked out that the White House has had an advance copy of his book for over a month now. They haven't been "puzzled", shocked or taken aback. They've been plotting propaganda countermeasures that were unleashed the moment the book went public. If you want a preview, just monitor the Gang of Four's posts from now on. This Garrison Keillor slander was just the opening salvo in a barrage of misdirections, obfuscations and evasions.

I'm convinced now, beyond all doubt. These people don't care about the world, the country, freedom, democracy, decency, anything. All they are interested in is keeping taxes low, workers intimidated and docile, and a guaranteed free hand to run their businesses in the way that is most convenient and profitable for them, and to hell with the future and everyone else. In short, they want the world made safe for their class. The pathetic thing is that most of them are not even members of the commercial elite, they're only working stiffs like us with delusions of entrepreneurialsm and paranoid fantasies to justify why they never seem to work out for them.

My only hope is that when we finally excise this malignancy from the American body politic once and for all, the wound heals cleanly and some new fascist infection doesn't take root in the festering, pus-filled sore it leaves behind. As for myself, I'm taking a a short vacation and detoxing. This place makes me feel like I need a bath. But I'll be back.
