I still don't understand the logic behind not letting people change their minds. Many of us continued in Vietnam even after we realized how badly we had been misled. Should we not be allowed to criticize our past actions? Was it completely discrediting that we didn't desert immediately? Are we so hypocritical as a result we should be shunned? Should the folks who wrote books about their experiences be forced to donate the funds to the Nixon Presidential Library?

Would a defector from, say, the KGB who worked against the US not be allowed to come over here if he didn't do so the instant he became disillusioned?

Should all German military personnel who attempted to desert and enter Allied lines have been turned back? Should Galland not been allowed to write a book? Or Speer, who still worked for Hitler even while thinking of ways to poison him?

It doesn't make sense to me.
