hyperfine transitions, Zeeman effect?

What are those long, paired, parallel lines, evenly spaced across the entire field, that often appear in crop circle photos, especially those from the British Isles? My guess is they are some farm machinery artifact due to Brit agricultural practices, but I've never heard anyone comment on or explain them.

They resemble Zeeman line splitting in spectra due to the influence of strong magnetic fields. Each line represents an absorption or emission at a particular quantum state or energy level, that are resolved by the field into the two electron spin states.
