Eclipsed?
Perhaps "dead" was too strong a word; eclipsed is probably better.
Newtonian physics works at all distances but does not
explain the vast cosmic reality very well today; it is going to be eclipsed
by the new physics emerging.
Einstein's physics as a cosmological explainer is going to be eclipsed
by the new physics as well....
Dark matter, superstrings, subatomic strings and loops, supersymmetry.
eleven dimensions...reality is getting stranger every day.
