Old wine in new bottles.

I wasn't just being satirical in my post above, it is true, this is just old news, stuff you could pick up by just reading the papers and watching the news. (Yeah I know, I've already corrected for the hidden media conspiracy that has been building up this incredibly detailed case even though they are not coordinated and funded by a sinister propaganda mastermind.)

This story should not be a surprise, it is the way countries and companies, businessmen and politicians have always worked, since the dawn of history. Why should one factiion in one nation at one point in time suddenly be motivated simply by freedom and virtue when none throughout history ever has?

Means, motive, opportunity, it's all there, and we don't need Frontline to convince us. We have the testimony of witnesses and the scene of the crime speaks volumes of its own. Isn't this what everyone who isn't already ideologically inocculated against it has known all along? Like the Scott McClellan revelations, this is just a summary of known events, not new evidence at all.

What I find reprehensible about this is not just the crimes, that is just, as I mentioned, how history works. What I found infuriating is the cloaking of the whole sordid mess in mealy-mouthed appeals to patriotism and national honor, defense and virtue. This is hypocrisy and cynicism of the highest order.

My other disappointment arises from those who when faced with this emerging tissue of lies, greed and megalomania have continued making excuses and covering up for it, refusing to even question the wisdom of their partisans, much less their criminality. Not once, not one time, have I seen on this board the defenders of the Administration make even one concession, one tiny admission of the possibility that maybe, perhaps, someone, might have made a mistake. It would be too much to expect them to recognize naked evil and agression when they will not admit to honest error if it might be used to question the infallibility and righteousness of their cause. Everyone makes mistakes. Even the good guys. When you see no mistakes at all it is because someone is lying.

In science, it is always reassuring to have independent confirmation of one's observations. And the reactions and evasions of those who fear this knowledge are precisely what one would expect from villains. Frontline (and McClellan) didn't tell us anything we didn't already figure out for ourselves.
