I stopped trying to keep constant track of all the different projects going for alternative energy, biofuels, and other things. It's very encouraging.
From the Valcent website, we find that this tech has the potential to eventually produce 33,000 gallons of algae oil a year from an acre (this assumes a special breed of algae).
I don't know how that breaks down into end fuel product, but note that soybeans and palm generate only 48 and 630 gallons of oil per year per acre respectively. This tech is also well-suited for CO2 absorption facilities near power plants and such.
Remember that CO2 emitted by burned biofuels is by definition a part of the main carbon cycle, and does not contribute significantly to increased CO2 levels overall.
