Is it oxides or alkali?

The oxides and superoxides have not been found. No organics have yet been found in the soil, but they may be found in the ice, if the ice is ever actually tested. Which is on a hurry-up schedule because of electrical shorts and other problems with the devices. It will be interesting to see if samples can actually be tested, given the problem of sublimation and the problem of getting a small enough sample in the first place - before it sublimates.

I won't be surprised if the results are... enigmatic.

That seems to be the way these things go on Mars!
