I'm sure Bush I and Clinton had their under-the-table deals with Iran too, since our harassment of Iraq was to their benefit as well. And we know that Bush II has outsourced some of his torture work to Syria. Even the Israelis have sold weapons to the Iranians knowing they would be used against the Iraqis. But every favor has a price, doesn't it? And both sides have been known to welsh on deals when they thought they could get away with it, or when they felt the potential benefits outweighed the price. What's really sad is when a long term national gain is traded for a short term political advantage, leaving subsequent administrations to have to pay the piper.
